PRODUCTION

THE VIDEO

I wanted this video heavily edited with a lot of graphics. Linking back to my research, i had analysed how Palace have made their videos recently , heavily edited , unique and really colourful. For the first edit, I started off with the music, no build up it just jumped straight in.

What i wanted to do with this advert is project to the audience that its so badly edited that its good. it needs to look like it has been made in the 90's. And this links back to my research again with the idea of using The 90's TV ratio to bring back that vintage feeling which is heavily admired in this generation.

But halfway through editing this video i was not a fan of how it started , i had a quick idea which i thought could be better. I wanted to build up the process of the advert to keep the audience glued to the screen. Not just some music playing in the background and the it just ends. I wanted to add a build up and add to the meaning of the video.

I started off the new video with the overlapping of green screen which i used in the first rough edit.  palace have used this in their adverts as well. By doing this i filmed multiple scenes of me behind the same green screen. To put a background in front of the green screen you need to put this in premier inn and ultra key it. To make it look better as well i used a tip of changing the ultra Key options to aggressive , it essentially makes the work look better. Green is the go-to because it doesn't match any natural skin tone or hair colour, meaning no part of an actor will be edited out through chroma key.

As you can see with this clip i have over lapped two green screen clips and then ultra keyed both clips. Therefore , Joining together.

I tried to compare my video to other palace videos to give it that Palace vibe. Here is a clear example of the photo above as you can see they are both overlapping green screen. Linking back to that idea of rough edits and 90's feeling these clearly link together.

The reason why i decided to change the audio so it just doesn't start with music is because I thought this was a good way to  add to the idea of building up the advert. the man who is talking is Lev Tanuj , the owner of palace. Not only did i think this would work with the idea of making it seem like a palace video it also emphasised the build up to the drop in the advert which i wanted change to my old advert.

Linking to my research i really delved into what song to use , hence why i created a rough edit and a new. To see which one worked best , and The worst contender worked better. Mainly because it builds up really well.

Audio played a huge part in my project. Palace songs in their adverts really add to the power of the advert. What i mean by this is that when you watch the adverts the music really shows an image of what palace are trying to show.

So when i changed the advert and switched the music i really needed to be careful on how i'm going to transition between the cathedral and roman singing to a Techno song. To do this i saw this palace advert with this man talking in a way of mocking adverts like yogurts. Where they talk in this really soothing way. This gave me a brain surge to mix the cathedral music alongside with roman music and then ' Lev Tanuj ' talking.

As you can see there are many audio clips put together. However it goes together so well.

There are certain scenes in the project where i have edited really well and thoroughly. I wanted to add as many graphics as possible. A lot of the time i  threw the paint bucket on my scenes and and then used the dripping tool on my trainer to keep the theme of the colour. To add repetition and make it colourful. Here is some evidence of the repetition :

I wanted to add quick zooms as well. There is one scene where it zooms into the palace x adidas and then zooms out and it changes to the blue. To do this you use :

Cross zoom was really good , its a good way of transitioning through scenes. So for instance for this scene it zooms through the palace logo and then the beat drops. This is a pivotal scene in the advert as it shows the audience where it peaks.

After this i copied and pasted the zooms loads of times and put it behind loads of shots behind a green screen.

Throughout the video there is scenes with the palace and Adidas logo spinning in 3D text. I wanted to try and make this myself. So i typed in the text in Photoshop and then changed it to 3D. However trying to put this into my work to spinning was too difficult , even trying to make a sequence on Photoshop was too hard. Unfortunately i had to take footage from a palace video but this could be something i could attempt to do in my next project.

The start of the advert i use the green screen curtain. Linking to my ideas i wanted to make it look rough in some scenes but not all the way through. For this scene i used the pop up green screen because the outcome looks so much better, the issue with the curtain is that it has some ripples so when ultra keying it , it just looks really badly edited. .

the outcome of the two green screen cover was so good. the issue , here is some evidence :

BAD SCREEN

GOOD SCREEN

Towards the end of the video I just added lots of the same shots of the instant zooms of the palace logo. Keeping repetition. Also adding lightening into some quick scenes and increasing the size of it and making it move by its self , this all added to that theme i stated in the  ideas , making sure it was like a 90's themed advert or in some way a retro theme.

The video was a good advert. Linking back to my ideas i wanted make sure it was heavily edited with graphics , just like palace have done in theirs. There's effects like paint bucket , zoom cross and invert to create a palace like advert. My main aim was to make it look like  palace advert and i think i succeeded in that. Purely in over editing it with some graphics , I wanted to make it so bad that it was good and i think i succeeded in that.

PRINT BASED

Linking back to my research my print based was important . Palace use billboards and posters all the time so i needed to make sure it looked like it was made my palace. Looking into my research i found out palace was based in London. I wanted to have in all the print based projects a different photo of a location in London. And linking back to my video projects i wanted the posters to be heavily edited and colorful, so it catches an eye.

However i needed to be careful that i don't edit the photo too much that people do not even know its London in the background.  Linking to back to my ideas my original plan was to have the banner as like an Adidas sock. However it just didn't fit with my video.

My first start of the production was playing around with Photoshop , i wanted to make the banners really colorful and bright.  I wanted my production to be everything i made, So as realistic as possible , i tried to make sure i didn't  use web photos and the only time i did was for the photos of London.
so for that i used Set up a white background set just like i did for the green screen on my advert video section of this project. This made the photos of the trainer look so much better.
here is some photos of us setting it up :

I wanted to set the white background up to bring a sense of professionalism to my work. to enhance my project to that next level.

I wanted to use the white background set to get some natural photos and videos of my trainer , some quick 1 second shots but look nice and natural. this links back to my research as i analysed how trainer companies do photo shoots and create such a white background.

Setting up the white background took a lot of time , we needed to make sure the sheet was at a good angle so the light doesn't bounce off. We had two frames and a pole , you would slide the rolled white sheet into the pole. What would of made this easier is that if we planned how we were going to set the white frame. This would of made the process a lot more easier.

We used the studio lights which you can see in the top left of that screen and also plug in lights. After using this set before i knew that we needed to use the three light system , this benefits the photo shoot as there is a fair balance of light which creates a full white background , therefore more professional. Using this system can really help.

After setting this white background up , we got some shots with the dlsr camera which is mainly used for photos. It took us a long time to get the lighting right as we wanted to make it look as good as possible , here is some shots :

These photos were perfect , so white because we focused so much on the lighting and also making sure they crisp clean!

After doing the practical work I sat down to do the editing on Photoshop.
The first thing i started on was the website banner , I rarely see palace website banners so getting this to look like a palace ad was not going to be easy. I got a photo of London and edited it thoroughly using tools like stylize and warp.

this is the original photo

After realising that it looked better with just one trainer i added in and placed the Adidas logo just below/ Not only did i think looked better People can see the logo more clearly so its not just tucked in the top right  as if they don't even want you to see its a exclusive collaboration.
I also changed the look of the trainer in the 2nd edit of the website banner. I sharpened the trainer so it look more crisp and distinctive , then I inverted the trainer to give it a unique colour , copied and pasted it and changed the opacity on it. All of these tools created a glitch like trainer so therefore this adds to the idea of creating a vintage theme.

FINAL PIECE :

The issue i had with this banner is that i need to get the trainers in symmetry , the first outcome of this banner edit is that the trainers were not level with each other which can really aggravate the audience instead of drawing them to the product, i was a bit reluctant to  add text to this banner such as a date because if you were that interested in the product you would click on the ad , maybe this something i could look into more next project. #

POSTER

With the poster i was a bit more open minded , i could add more text because people may have time to read it more than just a banner or a billboard. I wanted to keep the theme i was intending on doing with the banner and that was getting another photo of London and distorting it and changing the colours. I used camera raw filter again for changing the colour because it is so useful - you could use a photo of London and then make it look like a it's just been edited by a artist on acid.
Camera Raw gives the user more control over correcting tone, exposure, and color than the standard Photoshop filters. When retouching or enhancing an underexposed photo, Camera Raw is a good place to do the basic exposure settings. Once you got the photo close to the way you want it, save it by clicking on Done. Finish your fine-tune corrections in Photoshop using the standard tools. I also played with warping effects as well such as :

ORIGINAL PHOTO I USED FOR POSTER :

I used the crop and distorted to get the correct  normal size of a poster which 24 x 36.

Once i finished the graphics i really started the notice a theme which the print based pieces , they looked like a painting by Vincent Van Gogh , A true representation of this was painting by Van Gogh , It's almost post-impressionism. Post-Impressionism is a term used to describe the reaction in the 1880s against Impressionism the idea of warped and distinctive photos that simply don't look right , exactly which i am trying to do with mine. Gogh, Vincent van: The Starry Night

As you can see there are some similarities , it sounds very optimistic to compare your work to Vincent Van Gogh but there are some true similarities.

After putting the effects together I the put the grid lines together. grid lines  is useful for laying out elements symmetrically. The grid appears by default as non-printing lines but can also be displayed as dots. This can really help you put your work together as you know it is all in the in line and synchronised.

Once i did the grid lines i put the text in , I was reluctant to put in a recurring slogan in my work this project mainly because I was struggling to find one that clicks. Linking back to my ideas I came up with ideas such as '' the brand with the three tri-fergs''. But it just didn't have that spark that i wanted. What i did do to the poster was  add text but it wasn't in the other print based projects.

In the video at the start there is a voice over talking over exaggerating about palace , it's as if he was talking in a yogurt advert. Suggesting that irony that yogurt adverts show. But it in my poster i

I added in all the trainers in the collaboration this time because people would see the poster more than any other.

FINAL PIECE :

My final piece for the poster looked like the other sections of work i made , the link to post - modernism and the colourful colours I wanted to show. I used the German text as Adidas do and palace use the 'DAS FANTASTICH ' slogan , so i managed to mix to texts together.

BILLBOARD

Linking back to my research I analysed many palace billboard to understand how they make it. Once again I used a London picture and began using effects such as extrude which make the photo look like its 3D.

ORIGINAL PHOTO

The reason why i chose this photo is because i could of done a lot with it It was almost the same in terms as colour as the poster. I had an idea to create a half white board to the left and then put the logos on the white board :

However I changed this because it just didn't fit with other visuals. As much as i wanted use this plan I needed to make sure that common theme was included and i don't think that using this white background was the way to go.

So after changing my idea I began editing the photo. I really focused on to make sure i made this look like my other work.

IMAGES OF ME DISTORTING AND WARPING THE PHOTO ^^^^^^^

I had to be careful i don't write too much on the billboard because people don't have time to read this as much as the poster, I had to keep it basic. I added the trainer and the same photo in the web banner and then made it look like a really retro effect. I made sure that it looked like it had just came out a Nintendo game by layering so many effects such as wind and warp.

As you can see this really looks like a mix between a retro and modern art theme. exactly what Palace do with their adverts.

To conclude my production side of the project went well. I Wanted to add plenty of graphics in the print based and video and in some cases over edit it. I tried to stick with 90's theme which i think can be seen throughout the project.
